Baseball Card Price Guide

The collecting of baseball cards is a very popular pastime and in some cases can be a very lucrative business.  If you bear in mind that the most valuable baseball card changed hands in 2007 for $2.35million then you may be wise to think about looking at a baseball card price guide to see if any of those cards that you have lurking around in the attic are of value.

Ease of access to the internet and the world wide web has meant that it is becoming increasingly easy to find out information which has previously been difficult to get hold of.  The world of collectibles will benefit greatly from access to the internet and you do not always have to take your collection hundreds of miles to see a specialist collector anymore.  One good baseball card price guide is www.cardpricer.com.  Here you will find prices for over a million cards.

As with many of the websites that relate to collectibles and antiques, this site not only gives you information regarding a baseball card price guide, but also gives you help to locate cards that you are looking for and a wealth of other related information.  It also has a forum which you can join.  Here you will be able to chat to other collectors around the world and share experiences and stories and also locate cards and arrange to buy and sell.  It is always good to keep in touch with other collectors.  They, more than anyone, will appreciate the value of your experience and knowledge regarding lost cards, as well as the value of your card collection.  It is great to be in touch with like minded collectors.

If you have a large collection of cards, or more than one collection, it may take you a long time to individually value them using an online baseball card price guide.  You may consider getting in touch with a specialist and letting them have a look at the collection.  This way you will be able to establish whether the collection is worth more as a whole than as individual cards.  Sometimes, if you have a complete set of cards, they will be worth quite a lot more than an incomplete collection.  Letting a specialist see the cards will help to establish their worth.  You may also need to let a specialist assess the cards if you are not sure about the category that they fall into regarding their condition.  This can sometimes make a big difference in their value.  Some guides will not always take this into account and will only give a generalized value.  Be sure of who you are dealing with at all times and never mail your collection if at all possible.

Whichever baseball card price guide you use, whether it be online or via a specialist, I hope that you get a valuation for your collection that makes you smile and makes all the running around and locating and chasing of cards worthwhile.

Baseball Card memorabilia collecting

Baseball card memorabilia collecting is a hobby to many and has been a hobby of mine since childhood. Trading cards was a big pass time for my friends and I. Our game would consist of shuffling cards and then the one with the highest number would win. We were trading cards at the time without knowing the possible future value.Today I am still an avid card collector and through the years I have built a very impressive collection. My prized possession is a 1909 E93 Honus Wagner, and any serious collector would know and treasure its value. Honus Wagner 1909 t206 sold for a record breaking 2.8 million Dubbed “The Holy Grail” or “Mona Lisa” of baseball cards. This card was once the top prize in a Wal-Mart contest and once owned by hockey player Wayne Gretzky.

Most vintage cards you see today are reproductions of the originals. However there are still few original cards in circulation. Cards like Honus Wagner, Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig are among the few. These cards were collectibles even during the time these players were actively playing; this makes them more valuable today. Many of these cards show wear because the collectors of that time were children.

Collecting baseball cards as a hobby is quite popular with many people. Today collectors are involved in online day trading which brings excitement and sometimes huge profits. More and more collectors are turning to online trading. The majority of card traders today do not have the means to deal with the Wagner and Ruth cards, but even cards of today can rise substantially in value. One great resource for buying and selling online card memorabilia is http://www.vintagesportscardmemorabilia.com.

2008 Topps Heritage Preview - A Classic Baseball Card Set

The long anticipated release of 2008 Topps Heritage is almost upon us. The expected release date from Topps is the end of February. I’ve seen the date range from February 26th, to February 28th. Sometimes the release is delayed, but it should be the end of February or the beginning of March. The 2008 Topps Heritage cards will be based on the 1959 Topps set, which is generally considered to be one of Topps more visually appealing vintage sets. Let’s take a look at what kinds of cards we can expect to see in the new edition of Topps most popular vintage style set.As usual, Topps will release Hobby boxes and Retail boxes. Both boxes will contain 24 packs. The hobby boxes will have some features that the retail boxes will not have, such as box topper inserts which are described as advertising panels. The hobby boxes will also feature an original 1959 Topps card which will be inserted at a rate of one 1959 card per two hobby boxes. Cases consist of 12 boxes this year, so a case should get you six original 1959 Topps cards on average. These original 1959 cards will most likely have some type of stamp on them indicating that they came from Topps Heritage packs, although I don’t believe Topps has confirmed this.

The base set will consist of 425 cards, and there will be 75 short printed cards as well. This is a smaller amount of short print cards than in recent years. The short printed cards will be inserted at a rate of one in three packs (96 per case).

Chrome parallel cards have been a staple of the Topps Heritage product, and this year will not be any different. There will be three different chrome parallel sets–the standard chrome parallel cards which will individually numbered to 1959, the chrome refractor inserts which will be numbered to 559, and the hard to find black chrome refractor inserts that will be numbered to 59. I have not seen a 2008 chrome checklist yet, but the chrome parallel sets usually consist of between 100 and 110 cards.

2008 Topps Heritage will feature the three traditional insert subsets consisting of the 15 card New Age Performers set, the 10 card Then and Now set and the 10 card Flashbacks set. There will also be a new fourth subset called the News Flashbacks set. The news flashback cards will feature prominent news stories from 1959 such as Alaska and Hawaii becoming the 49th and 50th states and NASA introducing the first astronauts.

The 2008 Topps Heritage autographed cards will consist of 46 Real One blue ink autographs featuring vintage players from 1959 and current stars. There will be 37 Real One red ink autograph cards which will each be hand numbered to 59, plus there will be 5 different Flashback autograph cards which will be hand numbered to 25. A new type of autograph card is being introduced this year as well–10 Real One Dual Autograph cards. These will only be available in the Hobby boxes. Last but certainly not least, there will be ten one of one cut signatures cards highlighted by Mickey Mantle.

Relic cards from the 2008 Topps Heritage set will be comprised of 40 Clubhouse Collection relic cards, 5 Clubhouse Collection Dual Relic cards which will be hand numbered to 59, 10 Flashbacks Relic cards and 5 Flashbacks Dual Relic cards which will be hand numbered to 10. There will be 10 Clubhouse Collection Autographed Relic cards which will be hand numbered to 25 and 5 Flashbacks Autographed Relic cards which will also be hand numbered to 25.

It’s shaping up to be another fantastic year for Topps Heritage. Get ready to rip wax and trade!

New Baseball Cards Offer Classic Collectibles

Baseball cards have been an irreplaceable part of American culture for over a century. Giving collectors a chance to see the stats and pictures of their favorite players, baseball cards have come a long way in the past decade.

As some collectors grew weary of the traditional baseball card format, the card companies needed to find a niche that would help boost the excitement of their product. They found exactly that through the use of numerous advancements in the trading card field. Now that the baseball card companies see that their buyers like the thrill of chance when it comes to getting specialized rare cards, there are numerous sought-after types of cards available. For instance, one of the industry’s top companies, Topps, has found a host of ways to keep collectors interested. In their latest set of cards, they’ve offered up the opportunity to get cards that are signed by the players that they represent, giving you an exciting sense of possibility every time that you can open a pack. Also, they’ve begun to place actual pieces of game memorabilia within the cards. You may end up opening a pack and getting a piece of fabric directly from the jersey of one of your favorite players, or even a chip of their bat.

With all of these opportunities for hungry collectors, baseball cards are in more demand then ever. The specialized memorabilia cards feature extremely limited print runs, allowing for a high value to be assessed for the unique cards. Some of the more unique cards for the best players may fetch upwards of hundreds of dollars. And the game-used memorabilia cards don’t necessarily have to come from players that played the year the cards were printed - if you get lucky, you may find yourself with a piece of a bat used by Joe DiMaggio! That can add a very interesting prospect to sports card collecting - it’s almost like buying a lottery ticket! Sure, some of the cards may cost more by-the-pack, but it’s clearly worth it to have such an exciting chance to get close to your sports idols.

Baseball Cards Make Great Collectibles

For more than a hundred years, baseball cards have been an inimitable part of the American society. These cards have made progress in the last ten years, to provide to the collector, the opportunity to see the pictures as well as the statistics of their favorite players.

Quite a number of collectors would get tired of collecting the conventional baseball card layout and as such the manufacturing companies of these cards had to discover something in order to increase the sale of their cards. These companies have found that ‘something’ by adding a number of improvements to the cards. A variety of rare cards are offered by these companies as they have discovered that the buyers often go after rare and extraordinary cards. Let us take an example. A number of methods have been adopted by Topps, the leading company of the cards, to attract the buyers. In the most recent set of cards by Topps, some of these sets include the signatures of many players so that when you buy the cards you may have the chance to get the autographed cards.

Baseball cards are so much in demand now because of all the above stared prospects. Nowadays, specialized memorabilia cards are available in limited prints. Moreover, these cards are quite expensive also. There are certain extraordinary cards of the finest players which are sold hundreds of dollars. Furthermore, it is not obligatory that game-used memorabilia cards have to come from the players who played at the time when these cards were produced.

Other great sports collectibles include helmets, banners, snow globes, waste baskets, and wall clocks. To see a variety of these items, please visit our online store at: http://www.sports-collectibles-store.com/NFL_Tire_Covers-p-1-c-19.html. The Passion Of Baseball Card Collecting

Baseball card collecting has been around since the 1800’s, and millions of young and old enthusiasts collect baseball cards. Serious involvement shown by some enthusiasts who invest a lot of money and some even pursue a career in baseball cards. Baseball cards are sold for as little as 10 cents while a few cards are traded for as much as hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Baseball became an increasingly popular sport in the USA after the Civil War. In those days when there were no modern printing techniques, a type of baseball card was made out of photos of baseball players or teams pasted on a small piece of square cardboard.

Peck & Snyder, a sporting good company, first printed baseball cards in the late 1860’s. These baseball cards carried advertisements of their products and were given away like flyers for free. The popular hobby of the 1870’s and 1880’s was to collect trade cards that had various themes including baseball and pasting those into a scrapbook.

The mass production of baseball cards started in the 1880’s. Goodwin & Co. a tobacco company in New York produced these cards as cigarette pack stiffeners and to boost sales, as this became popular, others joined the competition. Allen & Ginter, Buchner & Co., Mayo and Co. and Kimball produced quality baseball cards and inserted them into the cigarette packs.

After a brief lull, baseball cards again became a rage from the early 1900’s. In fact, the period from 1909-1915 is regarded as the golden period in baseball card collecting. T206 Honus Wagner is one of the most famous cards that belonged to this era. The T206 Honus Wagner card is currently valued at around $500,000 and there are only 50 of them available in good condition. Some of the popular players who adorn the earlier cards include Ty Cobb, Shoeless Joe Jackson, Walter Johnson, Christy Mathewson, Cy Young, Honus Wagner and Napolean Lajoie.

Slowly tobacco slipped away from the baseball card scenario, and candy and gum companies filled the void. The cards produced by Goudey Gum Company of Boston are among the most popular baseball cards ever produced. The cards included pictures of famous baseball stars like: Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Jimmie Foxx. Gum Inc produced cards that include the photo and stats of such greats as Ted Williams and Joe DiMaggio.

Bowman Gum Co. started the baseball card industry as it currently is. Bowman sold baseball cards with a stick of bubble gum. Topps Chewing Gum company joined the process in the 1950’s, and the 1952 Topps # 311 Mickey Mantle is one of their most expensive cards.

At present, other than Topps companies like Fleer, Donruss/Playoff, and Upper Deck are producing baseball cards. Every year baseball cards hit the market featuring the top performers. A ‘rookie card’ is a first card of a player and generally costs more than other cards of the same player. However, the tobacco baseball cards are still considered the best of all baseball cards. In addition, the Honus Wagner card is considered the ‘Mona Lisa’ of baseball cards. A Honus Wagner card that was previously owned by Wayne Gretzky was auctioned off on eBay for $1.27 million.

When the number of cards collected really grows big, it will not be easy to manage them. Retrieving cards at will and replacing them would require the proficiency of a library science degree holder. To solve this problem there is software available that will manage baseball card collections efficiently. There is a variety of software to choose from depending on the complexity of the collection details that needs to be stored. One program that stand’s out is ‘ Baseball Card Collector Professional ‘, it is made for any baseball card collector, from novices to professionals, and it cost under $15. ‘

Robert W. Benjamin has been in the software business on the internet for over 5 years, and has been producing low-cost software for the past 25+ years. He first released software on the AMIGA and C64 computer systems in the late 1970’s-80’s. RB59 Software http://www.rb59.com/software.
